Centre For Health Studies, Management Studies

Medical Office Administrator

When you visit a doctor’s office you often spend as much time with the Medical Office Assistant as you do with the physician.  As an MOA you are constantly on the front lines; you are the first and last person a patient sees.  You hold a vital responsibility within the medical facility.  An MOA’s primary responsibilities include, preparing patient rooms, taking vitals, assisting the physician with inter-office procedures, calling for referrals, clerical and reception duties.  This position also requires excellent patient care skills, computer knowledge, prioritization skills and medical terminology.  You must be adaptable and dependable with outstanding interpersonal skills.

The Medical Office Administrator program at the Centre for Health Studies is designed to provide students with the business, technology and communications skills needed to work in a private physician’s office, single or multi-specialty clinic, or hospital setting.  Emphasis is placed on medical terminology, body systems, medical transcription and medical office procedures.  In addition, the program fosters the development of interpersonal skills, organizational effectiveness, and communication skills necessary to function in a medical environment.
